First In/Fertility Support Group A Success!

February 25th, 2013

Joy and I were so happy that we had interest in our group, and are grateful that it was a success.  We were glad that the group participants were able to share openly in a safe and confidential setting, and we were all able to learn from each other.

We did several activities, and one of them was to draw a picture to demonstrate your supports.  One participant drew a picture which I found really depicted how important having supports are, and she was gracious to give me permission to post it here on my website.  On the left side is a flower lonely, sad, desolate.  On the right side is a full garden in bloom and thriving, with the support of the sun and nourishment.  I thought this was a beautiful visual and wanted to share it here.

This is such a difficult topic, but there is support out there, and we are glad we are among those able to offer it.  Our next group is March 20th from 7-9pm.

Hold Me Tight

February 10th, 2013

Hi all, I am so excited about our upcoming Hold Me Tight group.  Susan Johnson speaks about adult attachment in her book.  It goes back to research and theories by John Bowlby.  Dr. Johnson summarizes the concept of adult attachment as “a sense of secure connection between romantic partners [as] key in positive loving relationships and a huge source of strength for the individuals in those relationships.”

This quote ties in nicely to my motto, “Improving personal wellness one couple at a time”.  In my work with couples, I help them repair past hurts and learn to turn to each other for comfort and support.  In doing this, it offers each individual a powerful inner strength and confidence, and strengthens their bond and relationship at the same time.  Hence, when you come for couples counselling, you inadvertently achieve greater personal wellness and strength while gaining a greater sense of security in your romantic relationship.

If you would like to learn more about Dr. Johnson’s book, “Hold Me Tight” and how you can achieve a stronger romantic relationship, please consider signing up for our Hold Me Tight 3 day workshop.  For more information, please refer to my “Events” page.

Be Well,

Melissa

In/Fertility Info

February 3rd, 2013

Fertility issues are becoming more and more common.  There are numerous reasons for this- environmental issues, stress, couples marrying and starting a family later in life, focussing on career first, poor diet, exposure to radiation from microwaves and electronics, and the list goes on and on.  Some couples chose to seek fertility treatment through the medical field (getting IUI’s, IVF’s, medications) or through alternative medicines (acupuncture, naturopath, osteopath, chiropractic).  Other couples become foster parents or adoptive parents.  Still other couples decide to remain child-less, or ultimately accept life without children to call their own.

It is often difficult to talk about this topic.  However, it is important to know that if you want it, the help and support is there.  You are not alone.  My husband and I have been on this journey for almost three years, and I can honestly say that the more I talk about it, the more I realize how prevalent this issue is.

Another colleague, Joy, and I have started an in/fertility support group.  We would like for it to be an ongoing group, and hoping for enough interest to continue it.  The next one is Feb 20th from 6-8pm, and is at Leaside Therapy Centre, at 1395 Bayview Ave.  Please contact me to register.

I have also posted some other in/fertility resources on my Resources page.  Be sure to check it out!

Be Well,

Melissa
